I had a teacher at Uni called Mike Berridge. In one tutorial he gave us this fab introduction to what makes cancer cells when they shouldn’t. At the end I said “I really liked that, can you tell me a text book where I can follow it up and read more?”, and he replied “well, actually, this isn’t in any books yet, because I haven’t written it down yet”.
I don’t really have role models. I admire some really cool scientists, because they are smart and have the courage and the brains to tackle important questions others didn’t even think about asking.
But although they have all my respect, I don’t want to be like them. I think it is best to be yourself and keep looking around what you can learn from others! What inspires me is more often a specific thing someone said rather than a whole person. I pick the best from different people 🙂
I find myself inspired by determined people who have overcome diversity; people who come from all walks of life and face something difficult, but dedicate themselves to something important to them. Like Paralympians, like the mother of Steven Lawrence, Professor Stephen Hawking… I would like to be as determined as them in everything I do.
Hello marshmallow and gilmour:)
I don’t really have one role model. There’s someone who really inspired me a lot though: my teacher in primary school. She is dead now but she used to talk about her former students which so much pride that I grew wanting to make her proud as well. Another person, and now I realise that I never told her that, is my auntie. She put this sentence in my head : if you want something fight for it. It really helps everyday.
Apart from this I try to get inspiration from deternined , courageous, adventurous people, qualities that I want to improve in myself.
What about you guys, do you have role models?
