i remember you asked that in the chat- I am still confused what you do mean by “pure”. There is no apple juice in orange juice. Then in a sense, it is pure orange juice.
But orange juice is not made of just one type of particles, like pure substances in a chemical sense. There are all kind of molecules in there, like sugar, carotinoids (the yellow color), different kinds of acids, natural flavours etc.
Hi Sanchez123! There are different ways to make orange juice. If it is ‘made from concentrate’ then the manufacturer squeezes all of the juice out of the orange, then dries it and then makes it back into juice again by adding water! This can affect the flavour and also destroys some of the nutrients so sometimes producers add this things back again, so I guess in this case, the juice is not technically ‘pure.’ Having said that, they often use nutrients extracted from orange peel so I suppose they are putting natural orange additives back again, so what do you think – does that count as pure?
When OJ is said to be made ‘not from concentrate’ then the manufacturer squeezes out the juice and stores it for up to a year after taking out all of the oxygen (because oxygen + bacteria will make the juice go off) but again, this affects the flavour so they have to add something back to make it taste better, so this also not quite ‘pure.’ But can you imagine your orange juice being stored for a whole year before you get it??
I reckon that the only way to get properly pure OJ is to squeeze it yourself straight from the orange!
