Not only I believe it’s possible but I can tell you it already exists! And no, is not science fiction. Is real science. Amazing no? Check it out here: http://news.discovery.com/tech/bionic-arm-moved-by-thought.html

      Hi griffmeg11,
I read on your profile that you are interested in working on the development of mechanical limbs. I just wanted to say that although someone has done it already I am absolutely certain there are a million things left to work on in the field! I can imagine that you could work on improving the fine-motor skills of the bionic arm, making it applicable to more patients or work on the addition of a sense of touch.

If you are interested in engineering- go ahead! Are you? How did you get interested in that field?

Yes!! And I would like one to do all my marking of student work for me and I’m pretty sure my cat would like on to open the cupboard and get the food out for her! Seriously though, it’s absolutely amazing what science and technology can come up with. I was watching the Remembrance Day parade on the TV yesterday and there was a young soldier who had lost both of his legs, and I hope that future scientists and engineers (maybe you!) can come up with bionic legs to help people like him. Imagine if Professor Steven Hawking was bionic!
